The FDA warned that heartburn medication, Zantac, and other generic products containing ranitidine, which are common heartburn medications available in both prescription and over-the-counter versions, have been shown to be inherently unstable and form NDMA, a human carcinogen. NDMA is used in aviation fuel and industrial lubricants. It is also a by-product of several industrial processes, including gasoline refining and the treatment of wastewater containing nitrogen.
